I got a chance to catch David and Maria before the disputation.

Disputation 2-2
Professor Dr. Anthony Brookes welcome
 David Fredman, Center for Genomics & Bioinformatics, Karolinska Institutet will deffend his thesis "Computational Exploration of Human Genomic Variation" for medicine doctorsdegree at Karolinska Institutet public in the english language in the Department of Molecular Medicine and Surgery's audience 2004-09-24.

Disputation 2-3
Opponent Professor Dr. Stephen W. Scherer introductory
Dr Scherer from Toronto University used almost half an hour to introduce the audience in the basic of actual science. After that the disputation started. David answered calmly and with assurance during 3 hours on every questions, which now and then forced him quite a long out in periphery of adjacent researchfields, but he came out of this with flying colours.

After the disputation the Degree Committe assembled during 1 hour for validation - Prof. in Experimentell patologi, Dr. Jan Dumanski, Uppsala University, Prof. in Informatik, Dr. Bengt Persson, Linköpings University and Prof. at depart. of "Medicinsk epidemiologi and biostatistik", Dr. Jan-Erik Litton, Karolinska Institutet (KI) + the opponent Prof. of Medicine, Dr. Sherer, Toronto University.

In the background we can see Davids supervisor, Prof. Dr. Anthony Brookes, being happy about that David has reached his goal. Originally it was professor Erik Sonnhammer in Bioinformatics at KI, who invited David to KI from Umeå Universiy, where David were planning to finish his studies with a project in Biotech. Prof. Erik Sonnhammer introduced David to Anthony "Tony" Brookes at a lunch. That was the start of Davids whole projekt at KI - a finish exam project for a Master of Engineering in Biotech and an offer of a doctorsstudent sholarship in Bioinformatics before his Master of Engineering exam was finished.

 LP's in the right place and lovely music is streaming out of loadspeakers. Daniele, Stockholm and David have at an early age held contact and inspired each other in making music with their computers, samplers and other eguipment.
